PINTAR 19th Roundtable @ Menara SSM

Menara SSM, KL Central, Kuala Lumpur, 7 March 2013

The PINTAR 19th Roundtable was held on 7 March 2013 at the Menara SSM, KL Sentral, Kuala Lumpur. The Roundtable which serves as a platform for PINTAR management to update PINTAR members on the programme and its latest progress, also acts as a platform for members to address any issues, and to share and exchange ideas. It continues to be recognized as a vital part of the PINTAR calendar as the event once again receives an encouraging turnout of more than 20 members. Tan Sri Dato' Dr Wan Mohd. Zahid Mohd. Noordin, a member of PINTAR Foundation’s Board of Trustees, also took time off his busy schedule to attend the event.

The highlights of the half-day event include an introduction by Puan Karimah Tan, Programme Director of PINTAR Foundation, where she stresses the value that the Foundation offers to its members. Another highlight was a presentation by the Deputy Director of Pahang State Education Department, Puan Faridah Abdul Rahman, on “Sarana Ibu Bapa & Sarana Sekolah under the Malaysian Education Blueprint 2013-2025”. During the event, the management team also revisits the important steps and processes of becoming a member and adopting schools, in an effort to ensure a streamlined and better flow of work in the future.

The roundtable ended with a Q&A session and lastly, members shared their feedbacks and opinions on how the PINTAR Programme can be further improved.

Media Editors’ Luncheon

ZA Studios, Kg. Sungai Penchala, Kuala Lumpur, 30 January 2013

PINTAR Foundation recently organised a Media Editors’ Luncheon on 30 January 2013 at ZA Studios in Kg Sg Penchala, Kuala Lumpur, which is the residence and private studio of Yang Berhormat Tan Sri Arshad Ayub. The event was aimed at informing the Editors’ from various Medias on the efforts and achievements of PINTAR and its members and future plans of the Foundation in helping the Ministry of Education Malaysia achieve the objectives set in the National Education Blueprint.

The event kicked-off with a welcome note by Ms Noor Nazatul Janah, Head of Marketing and Communications of PINTAR Foundation followed by a brief presentation by our Programme Director, Puan Karimah Tan Abdullah.  The session continued with a question and answer session where Tan Sri Arshad Ayub responded to the various queries raised by the media. Tan Sri Arshad Ayub ended the session by urging the editors to include more news about PINTAR Foundation in order to help us gain more awareness as well as to attract more corporates to join PINTAR Foundation in reaching the underserved students at underperforming schools nationwide. The event ended with a home-cooked lunch being served.

PINTAR Launches its Second Publication titled ‘Beating the Odds’

Legoland, Nusajaya, Johor, 7-9 November 2012

PINTAR Foundation recently launched its latest publication - the PINTAR Inspirational Book entitled “Beating the Odds” on 9th November 2012. The launch was attended by, Tuan Hj. Amran A. Rahman, Johor Bharu District Officer and Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Arshad Ayub, Chairman of Board of Trustees, PINTAR Foundation, which took place during the recent PINTAR BattleBot Challenge National Finals held at the Legoland theme park in Nusajaya, Johor.

The book which objective is to inspire the young generation to face up to life's challenges and overcoming obstacles is written based on the real-life amazing stories of children from the underserved community across Malaysia - describing how their perseverance has changed their lives for the better. The book also features inspiring stories told by well-known Malaysian icons who have made it big today - Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop, Tan Sri Arshad Ayub, Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir, Dato’ Bernard Chandran, Prof Dato’ Dr Jimmy Choo, Dato’ Nicol David and Dato’ Lat.

“Beating the Odds” (BTO) is PINTAR Foundation’s second publication. In 2011, PINTAR in collaboration with Khazanah Nasional’s Heritage and Art initiative published the first bilingual children’s book titled “The Malaysia Art Book for Children”. BTO is now available for purchase at selected MPH bookstores nationwide. Both books can also be purchased via PINTAR’s official website and Facebook page, and also by other online bookstore which will be announced soon.  The proceeds of the book sales will be channeled to PINTAR Foundation to fund its PINTAR National Programmes which go to all PINTAR schools throughout Malaysia.

PINTAR BattleBot Challenge - Students Battle It Out at the National Level

Legoland, Nusajaya, Johor, 7-9 November 2012

The PINTAR BattleBot Challenge (PBBC) is a robotic competition among PINTAR school children aged 9-12 years old using LEGO technology.  Contestants for the challenge will design and build a robust BattleBot vehicle using LEGO parts and pieces to withstand challenges from other bots.

Throughout the months of Oct – Dec, three Zone Level Challenges were conducted. The Central Zone Level was held at Grand Kampar Hotel, Perak; the Northern Zone level was held at Park Avenue Hotel, Kedah; a total of 108 students and 60 teachers participated in the challenge. The Final Zone Level Challenge was held in Johor.

The National Quarter-Final and Semi-Final rounds of the competition were held at the New York Hotel, Johor Bahru while the Final round and closing ceremony was held in Legoland Malaysia, Nusajaya where a total of 64 students and 50 teachers participated in the competition.

SK Bukit Cheding, Selangor emerged as champion of the 2012 PINTAR BattleBot Challenge after beating SK Paka III, Terengganu in the Final Round. In third place was SK Merchong Jaya, Pahang  and in fourth was SK Hj Hussin Dol, Kedah. There were also 3 Creativity Awards introduced this year and given to teams who have successfully created robots that were creative and strongly constructed.

The closing ceremony was graced by Johor Bahru District Officer, Tuan Haji Amran Bin A. Rahman, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Arshad Ayub, Chairman of PINTAR Foundation,and  Puan Shareen Shariza Abdul Ghani, Member, Board of Trustees of PINTAR Foundation, who also gave away the prizes to the winners.

The guests and participants were given a special treat (educational trip) after the closing ceremony, and were allowed free access to the theme park and its facilities, courtesy of Legoland Malaysia.

2012 marks the final year of the programme implementation with our programme partner, Children’s Technology Workshop Sdn Bhd.

Edutainment Fun for PINTAR Students at KidZania

Kidzania, Mutiara Damansara, 12 October 2012

A total of 887 students and 134 teachers from 27 PINTAR schools were treated to a trip to KidZania, Mutiara Damansara on 15 October 2012. KidZania Kuala Lumpur is an indoor family edutainment centre which offers an interactive learning and entertainment experience for kids in a kid-sized city to deliver the first-of-its-kind edutainment fun.

The programme was initiated and sponsored by Khazanah Nasional and our PINTAR Members sponsored their respective schools’ transportation and accommodation. Among the members involved were CIMB, Maybank, Wesports, Bank Islam, MBSB, TM, Bursa Malaysia, MRCB, UMW and MAS. Also involved in the programme were Yayasan Sejahtera and Yayasan Chow Kit who sponsored their respective schools to join the trip.

The programme was aimed at expanding the children’s interactive learning through hands-on experience with the rich resources in the education and entertainment indoor theme park that mimicked real life jobs and activities in the real world.
